Tag-team film review: Wonderland, Dir Michael Winterbottom
the following is a film review that a has been slaughtered (commented on) by SARAH in CAPITALS:
For the record, my opnion of the film was closer to the Ian's (original) review.

STEVIE I THINK IT SHOULD READ LIKE THIS..... john, a more accurate
review of the movie follows, make up your own mind....
There is probably no single word in the English language which can
> adequately describe Michael Winterbottom's latest film - Wonderland
EXCEPT FOR PREHAPS DREADFUL
>
> It is a film of raw beauty (LIKE THE INNARDS OF A COW) and
spellbinding power (IE, HE FELL ASLEEP)
> The director, Michael Winterbottom, shoots everything in a grainy
(THAT'S BECAUSE LONDON IS GRAINY)
> hand-held - almost camcorder style (CORRECT, HIS LITTLE BROTHER
FILMED IT ON HIS MUMS VIDEO RECORDER) which imparts the events to us
from the
> inside out (LIKE LOOKING OUT A COW'S ARSE FROM THE INSIDE), rather
than staged (THAT'S BECAUSE THEY COULDN'T ACT) . Its like there is an
invisible camera
> ceaselessly exploring the (INCREDIBLY DULL) characters lives- this
technique seems to give
> the viewer a sense that they are watching real people who are not
aware of
> us (AS SAID - THEY COULDN'T ACT)
> Wonderland plots a long weekend in the lives of three south London
> sisters (A TART, A WANNA BE TART AND A PREGNANT TART), their parents
(A DOG KILLER AND A PATHETIC OLD MAN) and brother (A ROOTER)
> Wonderland is a sea of strangers (I WISH THEY'D STAYED STRANGERS TO
ME), all lonely and all hungry for love (DOESN'T SURPRISE ME ONE BIT), -
> Interspersing the films sober moments are extraordinary (??????)
sequences where
> the camera submerges in neon lights (WHEN??? LIES ALL LIES), the
editing plays with cutting and
> speed (GET REAL, IT DID NOT), Nyman's exceptional music score (CAN'T
EVEN REMEMBER THE MUSIC) pushes the viewer into a visual and
> aural catharsis (WHAT HE MEANS IS A COMA)
> There isn't a little climax every five minutes (EXCEPT FOR THE TART
AND ROOTER), characters don't recap
> their situations to let the audience know what's happening (THAT'S
BECAUSE NOTHING IS HAPPENING). Everything
> plays out at a realistic pace (YES, VERY HO HUM). The rhythms and
sounds of real life are
> captured - in homes, pubs, hairdressers, dates, phones etc (LIKE YOU
DON'T GET THAT EVERYDAY IN YOUR OWN IINCREDIBLY DULL LIFE)
> For me, Wonderland has a haunting quality which left me in tears (OF
RELIEF)
scenes are riveting (NOT)for their simple (AS SAID, HIS LITTLE BROTHER
FILMED IT)
but profound drama, others are
> mesmerising for their cinematic power, where image, sound, music and
> emotion fuse in a chain reaction
> Wonderland - the best (WORST)
film of year (CENTURY)
- cinema verite like never before
> open your heart to the magic that it is - go see it - (HOW UTTERLY
RIDICULOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
